IT'S SUNNY TODAY :)

This post has nothing to do with the sun but OH WELL! It's about my Brighton project! The fact that it is ALMOST finished! All I have to do now is drive (make my parents drive) to the beach to photograph my mermaid chair in its natural habitat! Anyway, I have taken some photos of it at college in a blank space so it looks all professional even though the final pictures will be at the beach!

Brighton Project ALMOST finished!

YESSS!! I have almost finished the Brighton project at College :) I have finished my Mermaid chair and all of this week I have been making resin shell lights and screen printing for a wall canvas...

My resin shell lights setting (which take about 30 hours to dry :O :O The packaging said 12-24 hours :O LIES!!!)...

I have created a couple of extras too! This overlapped pattern will be made into a cushion...

...and this cheeky Mermaid top, to be worn at all times when sitting on the Mermaid chair!!

CHAIR!!!! Before and After!!!

I have been killing my hands the past few days re-upholstering my chair for the Brighton project! I have sanded, painted, dyed and bashed nails (and thumbs) with a hammer. Considering this is the first time I have used a hammer, let alone upholster something, I am rather pleased with what I have achieved :)

I got this chair from a Vintage/Antique shop in the town of Midhurst. The man said it was made in 1810, around the same time that the Brighton Pavilion was built. The design of the chair was inspired by Egypt and the legs were made to resemble the shape of swords! I really liked the history of this chair and its nice to know I have given it a new life :)  

Ripping off the original cover and padding. Horse hair :O Very spiky to sit on!...

Sanding down the wood...

Painting the chair metallic silver and Gold!!...

Meanwhile... Tying up the new cover material...

DYEING IT!!!...

BLUE HANDS!!! Leaky gloves :( And they are STILL BLUE!!!

Placing the Horse hair back on the chair...

Putting new comfy SHEEP wool on top of the Horse hair to make it EXTRA SQUIDGY!!!

Re-covering it with plain material...

FINALLY!!! Covered with tie-dyed fabric, held in place with lots of upholstery tacks, hammered in by yours truly...

I have still got to cover it with large Mermaid scales :) (Cut out of Acetate!)

Had a really good time in Brighton on Monday!! I was rather obsessed with the panorama setting on my camera!!!!

BRIGHTON PROJECT!

I have just started the Brighton project at College. It is an interior design project and at the end I hope to produce a chair, lamp and some form of wall art! All in 3 weeks :O

I saw this AD campaign by Mulberry and thought it suited this project well :)

On Monday my class and I are going to Brighton to get pictures and inspiration.

REALLY looking forward to going :)

My friends and I have already planned our itinerary which includes a trip to the Choccywoccydoodah cafe :) :D!!

This is the Choccywoccydoodah shop in Brighton!! EVERYTHING is made from Chocolate (and cake)!! Apart from that man! And the walls :P...

Westminster and Brighton !

On Thursday me and my friend Jaz went to an open day at Westminster University. The fashion course there is really good and the tutors were really enthusiastic and passionate about it. We also go to see and touch ACTUAL students work, which I thought was a nice extra to the open day tour.

After the open day me and Jaz went to Covent Garden market for some Christmas shopping. We got VERY lost on the way because we got off at Leicester square tube station and walked to Covent Garden, but this turned into a good thing as whilst walking down an alley way we noticed FRDERIK FROM MADE IN CHELSEA in a Japanese (I think) restaurant !!!!!!!!!

I tried to take a picture of him by walking back and forward past the restaurant about 10 times, but I chickened out when he ACTUALLY LOOKED AT ME !!!! :)

Friday was the Made 11 fair in Brighton. I really loved the fair, because sometimes I find craft fairs a bit too hippy pottery for me, but Made was a nice mix of everything; textiles, clothes, jewellery, glasswork etc... My definite favourite artist was Lara Sparks who creates beautiful hand machine embroidered homewares and accessories. It was quite coincidental meeting her, as my friend has been doing work experience for her. Here is some of her work...

After this we went shopping (of course) :P We went to the lanes and had a picnic on the beach. On the beach there was a really cool gift/art shop selling eccentric books, jewellery, art and cards. My favourite things in the shop were the Rob Ryan home wares and the Tatty Devine jewellery.

I saw this necklace and instantly fell in love with it, but I was really good and didn't buy it...

...But then I saw this ring in a different shop and gave in and bought it :/ 

I am obsessed with laser cut Jewellery now, so I think I might try some at college...
